All talks are illustrated with slides and accompanied by artwork / samples for you to see in person. Talks last approximately 45 minutes.

A look at my work and inspirations since discovering textiles in 2001. A great introduction to my varied, interesting and colourful work. See how it has evolved from City & Guilds study on the kitchen table to a purpose built studio and exhibition and teaching trips to Australia in 2008.
Goddesses
“The Earth and the Goddess were once one and she was the first of all the Earth - the nurturing Mother who brings forth all life”. A light hearted, informative talk on the history and imagery of goddesses. From prehistoric rock carvings to my own interpretations.

New work inspired by “Gothic” - Pugin, Gothic revival architecture and gothic fairy tales – costumes, corsets and dark glamour.

The Story of Silk
A light hearted, informative talk on the history and use of this most fascinating fibre. From its discovery in China, how it caused havoc in Ancient Rome through to its history in Europe.

Workshops for Groups
Please enquire for current fees and travelling expenses.
As part of the contract made when booking a workshop:
- Requirements list will be sent out prior to workshop.
- Maximum number of students is 16.
- Students to supply own materials. A small charge maybe made per person, for paints, dyes, foils etc
- Tutor will provide specialised materials for students to buy on the day.
- Group to supply an iron and board if possible.
- Ideally
the room should be large enough for the students to move around, for an
ironing board and for two tables to be set for the tutor - one for
display and one for teaching.
- Overnight accommodation (if required) should be provided in a Travelodge / Holiday Inn Express or similar establishment or an allowance made.
- 30 days cancellation notice if possible.
3D Goddesses

Create your own 3D goddess. Patterns and templates available, use hand stitch, machine or the embellisher.

Creative Canvaswork
1 day course
Using a painted canvas, or canvas overlaid with sheer fabrics we will liberate canvas stitches and incorporate freestyle stitching and machine work if you want. Sewing machine optional.

Diamond Mosaic
1 or 2 day course
Using strips of cottons, silks and glitzy pieces we’ll create a diamond mosaic which can be embellished with beads and hand stitches. Sewing machine required.

Dyeing Fabrics and Threads

Dyeing cotton, silk and rayon fabrics with procion dye – explore shibori with folding and stitching, try graduation dyeing, space dyeing etc. Small additional charge per person for dyes etc.

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use your sewing machine for free machine embroidery? If so this class is for you. Perfect for quilters and embroiderers. Easy relaxed class. Sewing machine where the feed dogs can be dropped or covered is required.

Paint the background, cut up snippets, bond, appliqué, stitch and bead! Create a fabulous garden picture. Sewing machine optional.

Using templates and raw edge appliqué to create your own goddess hanging. Use hand or machine stitching to quilt and enhance the design and add beads for some glitz.

Knit, Stitch & Distress

Do you have fancy knitting yarns sitting at home? Learn how to use these yarns to create textured backgrounds. Sewing machine required.

Landscape Impressions

Using cottons, silks, velvets and sheers we will interpret a picture of your choice. Further embellishment can be added with beads and stitching. Sewing machine optional but useful.

Take time to play and create samples using various mediums available to textile artists such as xpandaprint, foil, tyvek etc. Small additional charge per person for paints etc. Sewing machine optional.

Use the embellisher (or needlefelt by hand) to create wonderful wall hangings and 3D sculptures – add angelina, organza, foils and more to really get the most out of your machine (or hand technique!)

Silk Paper Making
1 day course
Learn how to make silk paper bowls and pods as well as sheets of paper. Decorate with leaves, dried flowers and sparkly bits. We will make two types of silk paper “instant” and “clarty”. Perfect for individual and unusual presents and creating a new fabric for further stitching.
